The Uganda Hippos who are vying to clinch the maiden World Cup slot will need to go past Nigeria if they are to bring their dream to reality.
Uganda will face off against Nigeria in the quarter-finals of the ongoing TotalEnergies AFCON U20 at Suez Canal Stadium, Ismailia today (Thursday).
The Hippos head coach Jackson Mayanja called upon his charges to clinical and take away any chance that comes their way if they are to the get stage.
“At this stage, usually the chances created are less because all teams are good. So you need to be lethal and attentive to take away any chance that comes your way,” Mayanja said during the pre-match conference.
“I am confident that my boys will execute the assignment ahead of them. Nigeria is a good team but we are equally good that is why we have managed to come this far,” he added.
According to Mayanja, it’s hard to predict the final score because the game might close the game in normal time or even be dragged in penalties but the ultimate goal should be reaching the semifinals.
To reach this stage, Uganda topped Group B with five points (one win and two stalemates) while Nigeria finished second in group A with six points (two wins and a loss).
Uganda has conceded three and scored four while Senegal has conceded only one goal and found the back of the net on three occasions.
Uganda managed to reach the finals of the previous U20 AFCON before losing to Ghana in Mauritania.
